Spanish network Auren wants to capitalise on its recent admission to the Forum of Firms (FoF) to become a serious alternative to the big firms at international level.

Auren was admitted to the FoF in April at the organisation's latest meeting in London.

The FoF is an association of international networks of accounting firms that perform transnational audits and which are recognised by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) for promoting the consistent application of high-quality audit practices and supporting convergence with the International Standards on Auditing (ISAs).

Auren president Antoni Gómez told the International Accounting Bulletin (IAB) that being admitted to the FoF was a reason for pride.
"We are now recognise by IFAC amongst 25 firms of high quality and it is a great pride considering that compared to the other members of the Forum we are of relative small scale," he said.

Gómez said he saw this recognition as an important step in the network's global strategy. "Through our membership at the FoF we want to highlight to our clients that the big names in the markets are not the only ones to offer professional services of quality," he said. "We are perfectly capable to offer the right solutions and services with a high level of quality to our clients wherever we have presence in the world."

Auren has come a long way since it was launched in Spain 18 years ago, Gómez reminded. "The network is now present in more than 60 countries, nevertheless until very recently we were seen as a player in the Spanish market and nothing more," he said. "There is still a long way to go before we will be fully recognised at the international level but this is what we are working for."

This year, for the first time, Auren participated to the IAB World Survey and ranked as the 23rd largest international network globally with fee income of $99.7m in the year to 31 December 2013.
