EY UK is to close its Nottingham office from 1 July 2014, with the vast majority of staff expected to be relocated to its Birmingham office, which is about 50miles away from Nottingham.
There are expected to be a "very small" number of redundancies made. While EY wouldn't reveal how many of the 116 employees in the office were at risk, The IAB understands that any redundancies made will be to support staff.
Explaining the decision, the firm said in a statement: "We believe we can grow our Midlands practice more successfully from one location rather than two and so will not be renewing the office lease at EY's current location in City Gate West, Nottingham. Instead, we will continue to build a strong Midlands practice from one location in Birmingham."
"This is in no way a removal from the market in the East Midlands and we remain committed to the clients we currently serve across the region and consider it to be of strategic importance to the business," the statement added.
EY will retain a small office presence in Nottingham for a transition period.
